This years National Student Rodeo was almost cancelled mid week, and turned into a flatwater BCU fest. However through some kind of miracle, a huge herd of dehydrated cows had made the hike from East Anglia to drink off some of the water flooding into the Trent, and by Thursday afternoon levels were back to normal.
The Rodeo started on Saturday morning with the extreme slalom. There was a terrific amount of swimming during this round, and the looping pool was being ripped up by unmanned boats. Our own Jim the Crusher had to leap from his boat to avoid a low flying plane....

After all the heats were said an done, only Mark had made the expert final, having pulled some superb ends in his heat.

Saturday night saw some kind of rave put on by Leeds Uni, with no end of dance and trance beats being dropped. Our evening was spent drawing beards on everyones chin, and tagging them all with NUCC, and we were pretty surprised no-one beat us up.
The morning came round far too quickley, and sleeping on wet BA's is a really bad idea. The duo heats were littered with fine NUCC beards, and all four of our duo teams went into the final, or so we thought. A second round of heats was put on, where running the boat back to the top was included. Needless to say we weren't very good at this, and everyone got knocked out!! Kev and Huw were convinced they were through, however another uni had taken a team of strong men to run their boat back to the top. Mark tried to throw his duo at a pram an all, but he's mental...

C1 was very relaxed and a few spins and ends were thrown around, but very little else, not bad for beginners though.

Eventually the Mens Expert final arrived, and Mark impressed the judges and the crowd with his fresher style, pulling some masterful pop out's and shudder rudders. Now for some very strange reason, and one which shall be inquired about, Mark didn't make the final 5.... weird.

The Journey home was very very steady, Ailsa decided to get her throwing up done early on, and spread plenty down the minibus side, nice one.
All in all an ace weekend, and we learnt some stuff i think:
Mark learned Shudder rudders aren't scored in freestyle events
Huw learned taxi drivers are liers
Chris learned permanent marker doesn't come off in time for monday morning in hospital
Kev learned he shouldn't abuse people mums he doesn't know
&
Jim learned planes are dangerous

Happy times
